Das Experiment Rawks!

Gutentag! On this site RavX will be astonishing you!
How you ask? With "Das Experiment"!!!!!!!!
What experiment you ask? Well, making an airplane of matches fly!
This will be done with real living flies!
How this is all done will be explained with text and pictures!
Please, DO try this at home!

Weird Science!

Step 1: Making the airplane!
Not an easy task! You will need some equipment for this...
First of all, you're gonna need some matches!
Preferably 2! Make sure the matches are not metal.
Metal matches will be too heavy for the flies to carry!
The colour of the matches is of no importance,
I used yellow. Like the sun.

Yellow, like the sun.

The next thing you'll need is a knife.
Not your average knife, a really sharp knife!
I used a dissecting knife I found in my desk drawer.
You could perhaps use an old shaving knife.
Just make sure it's really really sharp!

Really really sharp.

With the knife you cut one match in half so it's flatter.
So don't cut it just through the middle,
you have to have 2 long flat pieces.
You cut the head from one of the 2.
Then you use superglue of some sort (I used Loctite)
and you paste it on the other piece.
Now you've got your airplane.
It is possible to make it prettier with other small
pieces, just like I did, but it's not necessary.

Wright brothers beat this!

Step 2: Catching the flies!
A slow task if you don't know where to look!
I didn't know where to look,
so it took me hours before I had 3 flies!
But I found some in my carhole...
Then I put them in glass pots!

Look for the flies!

Pretty hard to see! Try another!

Look harder!

Step 3: Freeze the flies!
Just put the pots in your freezer!
Right next to the peas! Or whatever!
I put them in there for about 15 minutes,
mostly because the flies were really fat!

Freeze them flies!

Step 4: Putting on gloves!
Flies don't wash themselves!
So they're dirty, and you can't touch them!
But you're gonna have to...
So the answer is: GLOVES!
I prefer the doctorlike white gloves!
They're pretty neat!

Spiffy gloves!

Step 5: Glue the flies to the plane!
Unfortunately, the batteries of my camera died!
Right at the big moment... But...
Seen afterwards, it was better that way.
The flies came out the fridge frozen and stuff!
So I took the superglue and the first fly...
The moment I put some on its legs the fly awoke,
causing me to tremble and so its wings were glued to the plane...
This was really terrible so I took it out of its misery!
Next fly, maybe I could do it with two...
The next fly was calm and didn't wake for quite a while!
So I glued it nice and sturdy to the plane!
And again, next fly! However,
while screwing around with the final fly the second awoke!
Trying to take off it lost 2 of its legs, what a shame...
This made me lose concentration so the final fly
was legless pretty soon and suddenly glued to
the first dead fly...
Therefore, it's for the best my batteries died!

Conclusion!
3 flies on a wooden plane might work,
but making the damn thing is really hard
and really cruel to the little flies!
But please, do try and show me it does work!
